24 Weeks

Today Baby G hits the all-important 24-week mark. Why is this particular week so important? He is now considered “viable” – if Baby G was born today, he would have a good chance of living. Of course, we’d much rather he “bake” much longer!

This weekend we started buying some of the little, everyday, but necessary things for his arrival: a bathtub, some toiletries, diapers, receiving blankets, towels, wash cloths, etc.. We also bought a nightstand to put beside the glider in the nursery, and a couple more books (we have a feeling Baby G will have a huge library by the time he turns 1!).

There sure is a lot of stuff to buy! Even though we really only have the small things left, they sure add up! So, we’ll be spreading out the purchases over the next 3 months and hopefully get everything in time.

I’ve also decided on a knitting project for the nursery: I’m going to knit squares with the letters of his name and make a wall-hanging (we do have a name, we’re just not telling anyone – not even our parents – until Baby G is born). You can get the free patterns here if you’re interested.

Here is the baby bump at 23 1/2 weeks:

  1. Glad to see you're looking well, Alyssa!

  2. Lookin' good mama! I'm so ready for the 24 week…it'll be such a big sigh of relief to finally hit that mark! 🙂

  3. Thanks, PiT! Nice to see you!

MDO – Thanks! Your 24-week mark must be just around the corner? We should take a poll of who will give birth first 🙂

  4. You're looking great Alyssa! How are you feeling these days. You must be getting excited

  5. You are looking awesome! I love love the idea about the letters for the name for Baby G.

and Yeah for hitting the 24 week mark!! your 40 weeks will be here before you know it!

  8. Jessica – thanks! I'm really excited about the knitting project. Mostly because it's easy AND cute!

GMP – thanks! I like the Picasa album because you can really see the progression!

    Anon – thanks!

  9. Nice bump 😉
My sis-in-law has a wardrobe filled with baby things that is bigger than her own I think, and that was before the baby was born! I don't know how bad it is now (baby = 6 months)…
Since so many friends and family are having babies I did a lot of baby shopping and I can see why some mothers use their kids as an excuse for shopping 😉 There are so many cute things! Hahaha!

  10. Liz – feeling good these days! Definitely starting to get excited, but still have a long way to go before November comes!

Nina – I've heard some people go overboard on the clothes (or people buy them so much stuff). So far we only have two outfits (one we bought at the 12-week mark, the other was a gift). There sure are a lot of cute things out there though!!

  11. You look great Alyssa! Enjoying buying for baby:)

  12. Woo hoo, look at you! You look great!

Some friends of mine canvassed everyone's opinions on the names they had in mind well before the baby was born. Others refused to tell anyone at all. One member of this latter group explained that if you love a name but someone else hates it, they'll happily tell you so before the baby's born, but never afterwards. If anyone didn't like the name, she just didn't want to know about it!

  13. Thanks Ash!

Cath – yup, we don't want opinions on the name ahead of time! We caught enough shit for – GASP! – finding out the gender, that we decided to not tell much else about the baby.
